In 2019, the craft of Talavera (in Spain & Mexico) was recognized by UNESCO under the Intangible Cultural Heritage list, highlighting the importance of the intangible skills, knowledge, and tradition passed down through generations

What We Do
Historical Overview
The technique of tin-glazed earthenware (faience) was present in Spain under Muslim / Moorish influence, bringing glazing techniques and decorative motifs to the Iberian Peninsula. In Talavera de la Reina, artisan pottery workshops developed a local style. The city is long known for its ceramic production. Spanish artisans brought Talavera techniques to the New World. In Mexico, Puebla became a major center for making Talavera pottery. Over time, Mexican artisans adapted the style (adding new color palettes, local motifs, and using local clays). n Mexico, only certain workshops are certified to call their ceramics “Talavera,” through a regulatory council.
